THE HIGH COAST OF SWEDEN

The High Coast Winter Classic will take you through the highlights of one of Swedens most breathtaking nature sceneries – the High Coast of Sweden. Experience the coastal mountains, the deep snowfilled forests and the shimmering coastline that has become a UNESCO World Heritage site!

A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

In the year 2000 the High Coast became Swedens second natural UNESCO World Heritage site. (The other is Laponia). The reason for this is the unique landscape that has formed due to the fact that the High Coast is continuously rising from the sea in a process of rapid glacio-isostatic uplift. During the last ice age the ice was thickest over this region and pressed down the land surface 800 meters. As the ice started melting new peninsulas expand, lakes evolve from bays and develop into marshes and peat fens. This created a unique landscape and the land is still rising 8 mm per year.

ONE OF SWEDENS MOST BEAUTIFUL AREAS

Even though there are plenty of geological attractions – the main reason why people from all over the world have started to discover the High Coast is the beautiful nature. And it is just there waiting for you.
