“I came by myself but met fellow hikers already by the fire during the pre-evening. I would recommend staying in FriluftsByn and arrive already Wednesday evening, then you will get to know plenty of people and during the adventure briefing on Thursday you are more or less friends with everybody. I loved it!”
Matt Evans, UK
“Out of the 200 hikers I would say that about 50 show up by themselves. When you are out like this it becomes rather natural to start talking to eachother and small groups are quickly formed from the start. Sometimes groups join eachother and then split up and then meet up again at the nightcamps. It is like hanging out at a festival with the only difference that we hike through amazing nature”
Jerry Engström, Organizer
Almost half of the hikers come by themselves, this create a unique atmosphere. Press play and check out what previous hikers have to say.
COME BY YOURSELF
– HIKE WITH NEW FRIENDS
Do you have a hard time getting your friends or family to join you on a winter adventure? Well guess what, that doesn´t matter. Every year hikers from all over the world travel to the High Coast Winter Hike for a three day adventure through the highlights of the Swedish world heritage site. Hikers have even come alone from Bolivia and China.
A LOT OF FUN – AMAZING VIEWS
Since a lot of people arrive alone groups are already start to form during the pre-evening on wednesday. During the introduction course to outdoor life on thursday morning we even reserve a corner for you who arrive alone. This does not mean that you need to choose a spot there, however that tend to be the case. This is also the corner where there seems to be most chatting going on.

Most participants arrive already on wedensday night. The hiker-camp in the Community Hall is cheapest but many choose to share a cabin with other participnats. Regardless of what you choose there will be plenty of fun before the adventure starts.
On thursday morning the first outdoor school – “Introduction to Outdoor Life in Winter” – takes place. If you want to you can join the corner where other singel hikers are seated. You decide what to do. However, this is the place where most chatting usually takes place.
Check out this video. Amazing hiking, outdoor schools with Fjällräven, Gränsfors Bruk, Morakniv and Woolpower, ice-swimming, winter camping, after-hike and much much more.
During the adventure you carry your own equipment, food and tent and hike in your own pace. We are in total 200 people that set out and you can choose between two routes during day one and day two. The third day we all hike the same distance. Since we set out in our own pace, take breaks when we want to and hike in various speed small groups are quickly formed.
5. SHARED NIGHTCAMPS
During the days we are spread out in the World Heritage Site but in the evenings we gather by our shared nightcamps. Outdoor corses, campfires, ice-swimming and much more. You sleep in your own tent or share tend with other participants that you have gotten to know in the participant group >>
Saturday night and it feels like we have been out together for weeks. We cross the finishline on top of Mount Skuleberget and start the celebration in the top cabin before we head down for warm showers and continue the party at the After-Hike with live-music. At 21:00 we get out and dance in the snow.
