TRAVEL TO THE HIGH COAST

The High Coast is closer than many think. It takes about 5 hours by car from Stockholm to the World Heritage. Considering the challages with infrastructure during the winter in the High Coast the best way to get here is unfortunately by car. But you can also take the train to Örnsköldsvik and then the bus to Docksta/FriluftsByn on weekdays. There are no busses on the weekends, but we can coordinate cabs to the trainstation in Örnsköldsvik on Sunday if there is a need for it. Are you interested in communiting? – check out our participant group on Facebook!

TIPS

  • Check out the participants group on Facebook if you are interested in commuting together with others.
  • The bus cpmany “Y-Buss” relieases their winter timetable in the middle of December. They run all along the northern coast line.
  • If you arrive by train make sure you can share a cab or catch a ride back to Örnsköldsvik on Sunday since the High Coast do not have weekend bustraffic during the winter.

BY CAR TO THE HIGH COAST

If you arrive by car to FriluftsByn and the High Coast just pit “FriluftsByn” in Google Maps and the gps will guide you. FriluftsByn is located in the center of the World Heritage the High Coast about 3 miles south of Örnsköldsvik at the south side of Mt Skulebreget. Just follow road E4 and you’ll see a sigh to “FriluftsByn” just north of Docksta. Follow the signage and about 600 meter from the E4 you’ll arrive at check-in in FriluftsByn. Here you can unload the car before driving and park your car at the parkingspot which comes with a 50kr charge for the entire weekend.

With the bus company “Y-Buss” you can travel along Swedens northern coastline between Stockholm and Umeå. Get on at Stockholm Cityterminal or Arlanda and get off in Docksta only a couple of kilometers from FriluftsByn. The tickets with Y-buss are released on December 12th 2021. The busses only run on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We do not know yet the train schedule for February 2022.

BY BUSS ÖRNSKÖLDSVIK TO DOCKSTA

Bus 50 that usually run on weekends in the High Coast is undfortunately cancelled since about a couple of years back. We have, togehter with the locals, tried to change this for the past two years considering how much it affects the country side and the tourism. Hopefully we will see a change soon. Even if the bus schedule for 2022 is not released yet we have to assume that there won’t be any busses back to Örnsköldsvik on Sunday. There will however be busses on Wedensday afternoon and Thursday morning. If you arrive by train or by car you can arrange a commuter taxi on Sunday through the participants Facebook group
